Power Electronics Engineer

Job description

WHAT WILL YOU DO

As Power Electronics Engineer you will play a key-role in the development of the Cargoloop + Passenger hyperloop. You will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, building, and testing the electrical power components in the Hyperloop system. These components include variable frequency drives for propulsion and levitation, energy storage systems, charging systems, wiring and cable assemblies, and the associated control hardware and control algorithms.

Hardt is seeking a Power Electronics Engineer to join our diverse, experienced team in designing power electronics as part of the overall systems architecture and realization of these systems for several tests including the Cargoloop vehicle at the European Hyperloop Center.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

As Power Electronics Engineer your responsibilities will include:

  • Take the ownership in the development of the hyperloop’s power systems
  • Own the entire design cycle, from conceptualization, to design for manufacturing, to validation of the power systems.
  • Design of motor drives and power converters for our propulsion and levitation systems as well as analog front-ends and control PCBs.
  • Conduct failure mode analysis and define fault prevention and protection strategies.
  • Design for electromagnetic compatibility and thermal performance.
  • Define and conduct testing and performance validation procedures of required custom power electronics at component, module, assembly, and system level.
  • Work together with a team of magnetics, software, control, and electrical engineers to design and integrate state-of-the-art technologies into hyperloop systems.
  • Work closely with partners and suppliers on creating the best technical solutions.

Job requirements

YOUR PROFILE

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in power electronics and PCB design.
  • University degree in Power electronics or a similar related field
  • Solid experience in the full design cycle of power electronics systems and PCBs: conceptualization, design for manufacturing, and testing.
  • Solid experience in high power and high efficiency drive systems design and testing
  • Experience in designing and evaluating power converter topologies and schematics and choosing and sourcing the right components
  • Experience in designing for electromagnetic compatibility and thermal performance.
  • Excellent experience in managing external parties and suppliers
  • Strong knowledge of power converter components (IGBTs, MOSFETs, SiCFETs, sensors, capacitors, etc).
  • Proficiency in Altium or similar EDAs
  • Experience in designing electric motor drives for electric machines is a plus
  • Vacuum rated electronics design knowledge is a plus, Firmware knowledge is a plus. Control system knowledge is a plus.

THE TEAM

We are a strong team of highly driven and enthusiastic people from all over the world. People who get stuff done, people who can create, who have a passion for challenges and love to explore. Hardt seeks achievers; leaders and visionaries who want to join our team and make Hardt Hyperloop a global success story.

THE COMPANY

Hardt is a European technology company that specializes in hyperloop. We believe it is our duty to improve the lives of current and future generations by creating technologies that challenge time and distance and remove physical boundaries. We envision a world where you can go and be with everyone and everything you care about. A world where distance does not matter.

Hyperloop is the new mode of transportation for large volumes of passengers and cargo. The hyperloop network connects cities, countries, and even continents in short periods of time. Tubes with a low-pressure environment offer ideal conditions for low-energy travel and protect the vehicles from external influences. Just like a highway, vehicles join and exit the high-speed network at any point along the route and are seamlessly connected with other modalities. Direct trips are made possible without transfers or intermediate stops.

How do you see the future of travel? We offer you to be among the first to have a say. Here, if one of us has an idea and a way to prove it, you will have the grounds to do it. We continually challenge each other to think unrestrained. You will have the chance to make a real impact on society. Above all, you will also have the best fun with us at our beautiful office and test facility locations in Delft. Those who are part of the team claim they got more than they bargained for. Do you have what it takes to join?
